Gianna Bryant aka GiGi, the daughter of Kobe Bryant, already dreamed of playing for the UConn women’s basketball team.
According to ESPN, “UConn and USA Basketball honored both father and daughter at the start of an exhibition game Monday at XL Center. The Huskies placed a No. 2 UConn jersey with flowers on their bench in tribute to Gigi.”
Gigi, also dubbed “Mambacita” after her father’s nickname “Black Mamba,” spent much of her childhood watching her father play and she also started to show the promise of carrying on her father’s basketball legacy.
Although Gianna was too young for college, she had a strong admiration for the UConn women’s basketball team. Kobe once said Gigi was adamant on going to UConn.
Kobe was also friends with UConn coach— Geno Auriemma. The daddy and daughter duo were often captured attending UConn women’s basketball games together.
Gianna Bryant tragically passed away on Sunday, alongside her father in a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of nine people in Southern California.
Her legacy will continue to live on and according to UConn’s social media, Gigi is “forever a Husky.”
