Legendary NBA player and commentator Charles Barkley is making a historic donation to Miles College!

The Hall of Famer is donating $1 Million to Miles College, located in Fairfield, AL.

According to the institution, it’s the single largest gift by a donor in Miles College’s 122 years.

According to WVTM—Barkley was at the school this past September, talking to the students about the importance of leaving a good legacy and living life to the fullest.

Another contributing factor for the donation was to strongly show support for Bobbie Knight, the institution’s first female president.

“I’ve gotten to know Bobbie Knight over the last year and it was something I really wanted to do,” said Barkley. “To have a female president is a big deal. I want to help Bobbie be as successful as she can be.”

According to a press release by Miles College, Barkley plans to contribute to economic development in the Birmingham and Leeds area in the next year.

In the past, Barkley has already donated $1 million to two other historically black colleges, Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, and Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta.
