Shaquille O’Neal Donates Home to Mother of Student Shot and Paralyzed at Football Game

The NBA legend will always standout for his major talent and height but the size of his heart is even bigger.

12-year-old Isaiah Payton made the news in August—when he was struck by a bullet during a high school football game at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta. The unfortunate incident not only left him hospitalized for several months but also paralyzed.

When Shaq learned that Payton couldn’t leave the hospital because he didn’t have a home equipped for his new disabilities, he decided to find a house for the family.

O’Neal purchased a brand new house for the family in the College Park neighborhood. Not only that, the athlete says that he will be paying the family’s rent for the next year with a little help from Papa John’s CEO Rob Lynch.

“I was watching the story and it’s just sad,” O’Neal began. “It could have been any one of us. It could have been my son. I’m going to pay her rent for the year and I’m going to give her some furniture and it’s sad because her son is paralyzed from the chest down and no mother should have to go to that,”
