Steven Tyler Opens Second Home for Abused Women in Memphis

Earlier this year, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith opened ‘Janie’s House’, a home for women who were victims of abuse in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Janie’s House Residential came following a partnership between Janie’s Fund, which is Tyler’s fundraiser and Youth Villages, a national non-profit. The house is equipped to help 14 women and girls at a time, and provides them with round-the-clock medical care, accommodation and outdoor living space.

Tyler himself has donated $500,000 towards the House and was also part of designing the artwork for the building.

The center gets its name from Aerosmith’s 1989 song “Janie’s Got a Gun,” which is about a young girl who turns to drugs after being abused by her father. Tyler said he was inspired to open the home after he spent time in a treatment center, and saw first hand the effects that abuse, whether physical or emotional, can have on young victims”.

The Memphis-area home is the second location Tyler has opened since starting Janie’s Fund in late 2015. The first location is located just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and was opened in 2017.
