Brittany Kelly of Douglasville, Georgia, posted a plea for help on Instagram Saturday. The single Mom admitted she was struggling to pay for her son Zach’s footwear and hoped a few tagged brands would possibly help out.
Zach is a basketball and football player at Stewart Middle School in Douglasville who is already 6 feet 2 inches tall.
To her surprise, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal reached out to assist. Shaq also had the experience of struggling to buy shoes for his own size 23 feet growing up.
He arranged for Brittany and Zach to visit Friedman’s Shoes, O’Neal’s favorite big-and-tall shoe store in Atlanta, which is owned by Bruce Friedman. After surprising Zach with his appearance, he purchased 10 pairs of shoes for the growing athlete.
Shaq told a CBS 46 reporter that he’s bought 3,000 pairs of shoes from Friedman’s over the last 30 years. O’Neil also shared: “Store owner Bruce gave me a pair of shoes when I was 18-years-old for free, so I’ma take care of the kid today because somebody did it for me. I’m doing it for the kid.”
