Jennifer Lopez has just said yes to the proposal of former MLB star Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod and J-Lo are currently on a romantic beachside getaway in Bakers Bay, Bahamas, which is where the retired baseball star popped the question. He made the grand slam by proposing with a $1 million emerald-cut engagement ring.
A few things that the couple clearly have in common are successful careers, beautiful families and big business ventures. But away from the cameras and glam, the pair are major league givers when it comes to charity. The couple’s romance has made headlines since dating in 2017 but their generosity has impacted communities for decades.
Here are a just a few reasons why they’re the perfect gift for each other.
In 2009, Jennifer Lopez Co-founded the global non-profit, The Lopez Family Foundation.
It advocates and invests in policies and programs that make a positive impact on communities. Also, it makes quality healthcare and health education available for underserved mothers and their children.
Aside from her own organization, Jennifer also supports 25 charities and 21 charitable causes. One of her most notable contributions was the $1 million donation for the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico, where her parents are from.
In 1996, Alex Rodriguez founded the A-Rod Corp. Although it manages investments across a broad array of industries like fitness, real estate and entertainment, it also plays a major role in Philanthropy. The corp is dedicated to helping communities where their ideas, people, and resources can make a difference. It has been involved with the University of Miami over the last few decades. In 2003, A-Rod Corp donated $4 million toward renovation efforts of the university’s baseball stadium – now named Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
In addition, the corp donated $500,000 to the University of Miami School of Business Administration.
Alex has helped raise over $54 million for the Robin Hood Foundation and also partnered with Dream and NYC Parks to raise $1.5 million to build a recreational baseball field in the Bronx and personally donated $100,000 to the project.
One major cause that the couple has in common is the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Rodriguez attended the BGC during his youth and has remained actively involved in the organization over the last several decades. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Miami-Dade chapter.
Lopez is the first female spokesperson for the Boys and Girls Clubs. She is an alumnus of the organization herself and credits much of her success to a mentor who discovered and encouraged her love of dancing and music.
Lasting relationships are built on solid foundations and if its based on good deeds alone, this couple will surely stand the test of time. Congratulations to two of the biggest hearts in Music, Sports and Philanthropy!
