One of Hip-Hop’s biggest Philanthropist is giving back in a major but different way. Sometimes the best form of gifting isn’t though a single donation but rather creating an opportunity that generates revenue for an entire city. Pharrell Williams is doing just that by bringing the “In The Water Festival” to his hometown of Virginia Beach. His idea, pitched back in November (2018) is to provide entertainment and activities during College Beach Weekend, an annual gathering that has been plagued by violence.
The 12+ charity supporter and 11 time Grammy award winner has gained incredible success and influence through his producing and song-writing talents. He’s worked with nearly every major artist/genre and the festivals line-up clearly displays it.
On Monday, the “Happy” singer announced that the festival would take place from April 26-28. Produced by Live Nation, the venture will feature weekend performances by Williams himself and Virginia friends Pusha-T, DRAM, Missy Elliot & Dave Matthews Band! Other artist’s include: Travis Scott, Migos, J Balvin, Janelle Monae, SZA, Lil Uzi Vert, Diplo, Anderson Paak, Kaytranada, Ferg, Jhené Aiko, Rosalía, Maggie Rogers, Mac DeMarco, Masego, Virgil Abloh, DRAM, Leikeli47, Jaden Smith, Radiant Children, John-Robert and more.
In a statement via a press release, Pharrell explained: “Virginia has been home to some of the most gifted artists, athletes, and scientists to ever live. For the first time, we are harnessing that energy, bringing the great minds of our time and the biggest brands in the world to this great place, and letting the inspiration flow and well deserved opportunities unfold. Virginia needs this right now and the world will see what we Virginians have known all along: there really is Something in the Water.”
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 8. The early bird three-day General Admission is priced at $150, VIP is going for $450. More details on passes can be found on the festival’s website SomethingInTheWater.com
